An outspoken former NBA player skirted censors with a special message about former President Donald Trump’s results in the 2020 presidential election that was shared on network television.
Pride nights, anthem kneeling and social justice sponsorship have all featured prominently in professional sports in recent years. Less so have been examples of right wing activism, and surely none so blatant as what onetime Houston Rockets player Royce White displayed Sunday at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
As he would go on to lead Power in a 50 to 40 victory over Trilogy in Game 1 of Ice Cube’s Big3 league Week 3 matchups, closeup shots of White revealed a message written on either side of his head that affirmed in all caps, “TRUMP WON!”
Fellow vocal Trump supporter and Arizona’s 2022 Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake was one of many to share the player’s message on Twitter as she captioned a screenshot, “Royce White knows what’s going on. Trump won. EVERYONE knows it. #81MillionVotesMyA**”
The host of his own podcast “Please Call Me Crazy,” White has openly endorsed Trump heading into the 2024 Republican primary suggesting that the indictments against the former president signal that he is the candidate the left least wishes to face heading into next year’s general election.
“Donald J. Trump 2024 — From the prison cell if need be. Whoever these corrupt elites marshal this much effort to defeat… I’m rolling with… I’m willing to bet that corrupt people don’t go this far out of their way to destroy the corrupt,” the basketball player posted with a video message last month.
Along with Lake’s promotion of White’s censor-bypassing message were Outkick, which called the player “fearless, unlike the rest of the cowardly NBA,” and former White House adviser Steve Bannon who had simply stated, “Royce White American Patriot.”
In line with Outkick’s message about the professional basketball league, White himself has remained outspoken about the positions taken stating as recently as last week, “It’s a disgrace that the NBA and most professional sports in America are completely run by propagandists. Inflate the currency… show jerk offs and negroes getting big contracts in a league where you must be Pro China, Pro Vaxx and Pro LGBTQISMM… The lunacy of it all! #Godspeed.”
Further proof that White’s main gripe is with the establishment and those who would stand against free speech and free will was the message he had decided to scribe on his scalp the week prior that read, “PROTECT RFK JR.” in reference to the environment lawyer seeking the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination against incumbent President Joe Biden.
Along with speaking his mind on the issues, White had attempted to enter the political fray in 2022 running against Cicely Davis in the Republican primary for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district. Had he won, White would have taken on progressive “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) in the general election.
At the time of this post, Trump did not appear to have commented on White’s ardent public support.
