New WSJ poll shows supermajority of DEMOCRATS say Biden is too old to run

A new poll found that advanced age may well play a factor in the 2024 presidential election and two-thirds of one candidate’s own party agreed.

Despite launching a re-election campaign in April and the assurances of prominent players throughout the Democratic Party that President Joe Biden will be the candidate, a look at the sentiment of his own base by The Wall Street Journal indicated the pressure may be on to pull the plug.

Having questioned 1,500 registered voters nationwide from Aug. 24 – 30, the Journal wondered whether respondents believed the nearly 81-year-old president could handle another term in office or if he had aged out.

The results showed that not only did 73 percent believe Biden’s advanced years were a detriment to his ability to serve what would amount to nearly five-and-a-half more years in office, but that two-thirds of Democrat respondents agreed with that sentiment.

“Voters overwhelmingly think President Biden is too old to run for re-election and give him low marks for handling the economy and other issues important to their vote,” reported the Journal before asserting the poll offered “a stark warning to the 80-year-old incumbent ahead of the 2024 contest.”

By comparison, less than half of all respondents felt the same way about 77-year-old former President Donald Trump as he embarked on his third bid for the White House.

Pitting the candidates against one another, more were in agreement that the 45th president had the record, vision, empathy and mental capacity required for the job than felt that way about the 46th president.

Meanwhile, as previously covered, the same poll set leftists in the media on edge as ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos had remarked of the 46 – 46 dead heat between the candidates, “It is kind of shocking in a way that despite all of the baggage that Donald Trump carries, he’s tied with Joe Biden right now.”

Former Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile had piled on, “When I looked at that recent poll, the Wall Street Journal, I said, ‘This could keep me up at night.’”

Along with finding that the two presidents were currently tied in the head-to-head matchup, with Trump trending upward while Biden had ceded ground, the same poll showed the former was marginally favored to win outright if third-party candidates were added to the mix.

“With every passing month, with every new indictment, Donald Trump seems to be consolidating his control over the Republican Party,” Stephanopoulos ominously intoned.

To his point, the frontrunner maintained a considerable advantage in the Journal poll as he had in numerous other polls over leading rival Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the rest of the GOP pack.

Meanwhile, as voters have overwhelmingly shown their disfavor to be represented by someone compromised by ailments of advanced age, Biden himself had defended fellow octogenarian Senate Leader Mitch McConnell last week, dismissing the Kentucky Republican’s latest public brain freeze as “not at all unusual” and “part of his recovery” after the 81-year-old had fallen and suffered a concussion earlier this year.

Reactions to the report supported the opinions on age from the Journal poll:
