‘That was my red line’: Whistleblower names Biden donor US attorney who ‘refused to bring charges’ against Hunter

U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves — a donor to then-candidate Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign — “refused to bring charges” against Hunter Biden for tax evasion, IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley confirmed on Wednesday in his damning testimony before the House Oversight Committee.

“The Justice Department allowed the president’s political appointees to weigh in on whether to charge the president’s son,” Shapley stated in his opening remarks.

“After U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves, appointed by President Biden, refused to bring charges in March 2022, I watched U.S. Attorney [David] Weiss tell a room full of senior FBI and IRS senior leaders on October 7, 2022, that he was ‘not the deciding person on whether charges were filed,’” the whistleblower, who spent 14 years serving as a Special Agent for the IRS Criminal Investigation (CI), continued. “That was my red line.”

As the Daily Caller first reported in late June, Graves left his partner position at law firm DLA Piper to be sworn in as the U.S. Attorney for D.C. in November 2021. Following a recommendation from Democratic D.C. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, President Biden’s administration gave Graves the nomination.

While still at DLA Piper, Graves made two separate donations to Biden’s presidential campaign, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records.

“Graves gave Biden for President $500 in April 2020 and $1,000 in May 2020 during the Democratic presidential primary,” the Daily Caller revealed.

Ian Sam, White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, dismissed the claims made by Shapley and the House Oversight hearing as nothing more than “political stunts.”

“Instead of wasting time on politically-motivated attacks on a Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney, the rule of law, and the independence of our justice system, House Republicans should join President Biden to focus on the issues most important to the American people like continuing to lower inflation, create jobs, and strengthen health care,” Sam said when asked for a comment by Fox News Digital.

“There are real issues Americans want us to be spending our time on, and President Biden believes we can work together to make real progress, if House Republicans would make an effort instead of constantly staging partisan stunts to try to damage him politically,” he added. “President Biden has upheld his commitment that this matter would be handled independently by the Justice Department, under the leadership of a Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney,”

In June, a Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson insisted that Weiss has “full authority” when it came to filing charges against the first son.

“As both the Attorney General and U.S. Attorney David Weiss have said, U.S. Attorney Weiss has full authority over this matter, including responsibility for deciding where, when, and whether to file charges as he deems appropriate,” the spokesperson told Fox News. “He needs no further approval to do so. Questions about his investigation should be directed to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Delaware.”

Both Shapley and his fellow whistleblower, Joseph Ziegler, allege their investigation into Hunter was repeatedly hampered by a pattern of “slow-walking investigative steps.”

Hunter was ultimately allowed to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax offenses in a deal that resulted in no jail time.

On Twitter, many, exhausted from hearings that never seem to result in anyone being held accountable, are demanding to know when they can expect someone to be arrested.

“‘‘Obstruction Of Justice’ by [U.S. Attorney General Merrick] Garland and his conspirators,” tweeted one user. “So….where are the cops and handcuffs at?”

“When guys like these put their lives, families & livelihood on the line, your committee AND Congress have an OBLIGATION to act on this evidence by any means needed,” exclaimed another. “DO SOMETHING!!!!!!”

“WHERE ARE THE ARRESTS!!!!!” fumed a third.

Others called out the mainstream media for ignoring the explosive hearing.
