Haggen Food and Pharmacy, a Washington state grocery chain that is owned by food giant Albertsons, has gone fully woke asking customers to unbelievably donate to “DEI awareness” when they checkout, making them a new target for a boycott movement.
Fox News got a hold of a number of photos that show a self-checkout screen at a Haggen Food and Pharmacy asking customers as they check out, “Would you like to donate to help advocate for DEI awareness?”
Customers are encouraged to add a $1, $3, $5, or other amount donation to their total. They are also allowed to opt-out.
A sign advertising the Haggen Foundation can be seen behind the self-checkout kiosk, advising customers that from June 14 through August 8 they can donate at “any register” to “support organizations that make positive social changes to ensure all community members live a healthy and fully inclusive life.”
The grocery chain flourished after the Great Depression but was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2015 according to Tasting Table. Since then, the food outlet has become environmentally friendly, and more and more woke evidently trying to fit in with the uber-leftists oozing out of Seattle.
This latest woke measure comes after Bud Light and Target were both hammered and boycotted over LGBTQ and transgender issues. Now that word has spread about the chain’s support of the leftist ideology of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), the grocery chain may experience its own boycott.
The Haggen Foundation’s website asserts that donations made under the DEI prompt support charities like the American Cancer Society, as well as others that support people with mental disabilities such as Chinook Enterprises and Faces Northwest.
But the donations will also support the Marxist Northwest Justice Project, which seeks to challenge “structural and racial inequities to promote [the] long-term well-being of low-income individuals, families, and communities across Washington state.”
“As a dynamic statewide law firm, we pursue our mission through legal advice and representation, community partnerships, and education to empower clients and combat injustice in all its forms,” the Northwest Justice Project proclaims on its website. “NJP endorses and has signed onto the principles and commitments of the Race Equity and Justice Initiative.”
“More information about the initiative and useful resources and tools to facilitate individual and organizational race equity work are available at the REJI website,” the site notes.
The Haggen Foundation has also thrown its support behind other woke organizations such as the Northwest Immigrants Rights Project and Empower Next Generations.
The Northwest Immigrants Rights Project claims on its website that it seeks to “undo systemic oppression.”
“We are connected by our common humanity, by global forces that affect our lives, and by historic patterns of oppression, discrimination, and inequity,” the organization claims, according to its “mission” page. “For society to be just and whole, we must work together to undo systemic oppression in its many forms.”
Empower Next Generations contends its three core values are “social equity, cultural diversity [and] inclusion” on its website.
“It is our social responsibility toward each other to offer equitable access to resources, information, technology, financial and social capital in a fair, safe, and secure manner,” the group declares.
When the Daily Mail asked Haggen about the radical organizations it supports, a spokesperson sidestepped the question pointing to other organizations it is funding apparently as cover for its social justice activities.
“The fundraising campaign currently being conducted at Haggen in Washington will benefit nonprofit organizations such as Down Syndrome Center of Puget Sound, Special Olympics Washington, Disability Rights Washington, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the American Cancer Society,” the spokesperson answered.
In addition to Haggen in the Northwest, Albertsons owns several prominent grocery store brands across America including Tom Thumb, Safeway, and Market Street.
People are not impressed by yet another outlet pushing “wokeism” down their throats:
