The investigation into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, is continuing despite a plea deal, according to a press release from Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss.
“The investigation is ongoing,” the press release from Weiss’ team said Tuesday. It also announced that Hunter had been charged with and is pleading guilty to two misdemeanor tax offenses and a felony firearm offense.
Hunter is not expected to face any jail time and will be given two years of probation, as part of the deal. He will also enter a diversion program after admitting the illegal purchase of a firearm in 2018. The gun charge could be revoked from his record after completing the diversion program, according to sources who spoke with the Post.
The press release from Weiss debunks the claims by Hunter Biden’s attorney Chris Clark, who that he believes the plea deal will resolve the investigation.
“With the announcement of two agreements between my client, Hunter Biden, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware, it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved,” Clark told NBC.
“Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement. A firearm charge, which will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement and will not be the subject of the plea agreement, will also be filed by the Government. I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward,” Clark added.
