An allegation is coming to light about how the investigation into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, is being handled.
Attorney Mark Lytle sent a letter to Congress about an investigation his client, a criminal supervisory special agent at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), has been overseeing.
The letter describes the probe as a “sensitive investigation of a high-profile individual.”
Lytle said his client would “like to make protected whistleblower disclosures to Congress” about the probe.
The Wall Street Journal and CBS News reported the probe the letter is focused on is the investigation into Hunter Biden.

Additionally, the letter claimed Lytle’s client’s information would “contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee,” “involve failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition of the case,” and “detail examples of preferential treatment and politics improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected.”
Hunter Biden is facing an investigation into his taxes and whether he made a false statement related to a gun purchase.
The Journal previously reported investigators “have believed for months there was enough evidence to charge him on tax and gun-related charges.” In October, the paper reported a final decision was on hold as there were ongoing discussions with Biden’s defense lawyers.
CBS News reported the senior political appointee referenced in the letter is Attorney General Merrick Garland.
In March, Garland testified before the Senate about the U.S. attorney conducting the investigation — who was appointed by former President Donald Trump. He told lawmakers, “He has been advised he is not to be denied anything he needs.”
“I have not heard anything from that office to suggest that they are not able to do everything the U.S. attorney wants to do,” the attorney general added.

Lytle also told CBS News it is “possible” his client has not been able to see the “big picture” of the investigation. However, he added the client had previously shared his concerns with his superiors before he sought whistleblower status.
House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) told Fox News about the letter, “It’s deeply concerning that the Biden Administration may be obstructing justice by blocking efforts to charge Hunter Biden for tax violations.”
He vowed the oversight committee will “work to hold accountable anyone in the Biden Administration who may be covering up this criminal activity.”
