It’s a meme, it’s a gaffe, it’s gone far beyond both and has even been suggested to be a Freudian slip. President Joe Biden during his recent trip to El Paso, Texas Sunday, once again referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “President Harris” while claiming she has taken an effective leadership role regarding the border.
Biden told the gathered press, “President Harris led this effort, led this effort to make this better in the countries from which they are leaving. Thanks to her leadership, she’s been able to generate more than $3.2 billion from the private sector to create jobs and opportunities in El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.”
The response across Twitter was fairly expected. Many users were quick to point out the error and many levied criticism at the octogenarian Democrat.
RNC Research noted that Biden said, “‘no one knows [the border crisis] better than the vice president…’ Harris hasn’t held a border-related event in over six months, and hasn’t been to the border since June 2021.”
Congressman-Elect Ronny Jackson (R-TX) observed, “Biden STRUGGLED today in his press conference. He stumbled over words. He called Kamala, “President Harris.” It was a DISASTER. He doesn’t know where he’s at or what he’s saying. He has NO IDEA what’s going on!!”
Remarkably the official remarks posted on WhiteHouse.gov reflected Biden’s statement by correcting the president in brackets.
“Well, [Vice] President Harris led this effort — led this effort to make things better in the countries from which they are leaving. And thanks to her leadership, she’s been able to generate more than $3.2 billion from the private sector to create jobs and opportunities in El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala to help people stay in their own countries — home countries where it’ll be safer and they have some opportunities.”
According to The Washington Times, Biden last made this mistake when he wished Harris a happy birthday in October.
The New York Post reported that he did this again in January at a Georgia speech, and still again in December 2021 when he told students of a historically black college in South Carolina that, “of course, President Harris is a proud Howard alum.”
The outlet records two other instances in March 2021 when he referred to President Harris regarding efforts to push Covid vaccines and in December 2020 before his inauguration when he called her “President-elect Harris.”
The president is once again showing his age, perhaps voters should consider such gaffes when they go to the ballot box in 2024.
