Former Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was heckled on Monday evening as she shared in a speaking engagement with economist and columnist Paul Krugman.
The series of outbursts seemed to support recent polling by Statista that showed the formidable political clout and following Pelosi once enjoyed is waning. As of January, her “very favorable” rating was just 19%.
During the well-attended event, Krugman lauded Pelosi’s leadership when she served as the first female speaker of the House. However, the event took a left turn when four protesters stood up, one at a time, and voiced their strong displeasure with Pelosi’s leadership.
Each spoke for 30 seconds or more as security wrested them out of the venue one at a time. Each protester clearly stated they believed Pelosi had not acted in America’s best interest.
The first protester said: “You know, Pelosi, that’s a very good place for you in the depths of hell. For some reason, you have a very bad obsession of getting us into war. Hey, why is it that you did not admit that there were no WMDs in Iraq?”
While escorted out of the building, the protester yelled, “You lied us into a war in Iraq. You got us to invade Afghanistan. Now over 90% of those people are impoverished and are dying. Why don’t you tell the truth about Nord Stream?”
When the first protester was out of the building, a second stood and continued to berate the former speaker. He yelled:
“Hey, congresswoman, I came to see a warmonger, but you’re a sad old drunk! What happened? When you went to Taiwan, were you looking for Ukraine? Did we blow up the Nord Stream on accident or on purpose? Did you know about that? … You’re a war criminal by definition, Ms. Pelosi. You got some nerve.”
After the second protester ended his grievance with several expletives and referring to Pelosi as a “war criminal,” two more protesters stood and voiced their dissatisfaction with Pelosi’s leadership and Democratic initiatives.
Video of the exchange has garnered more than 280,000 views in 24 hours. Most of those responding to the Twitter post are not supporting the former speaker.
