Large families can be a fairly positive thing, but not in the case of 41-year-old Jonathan Jacob Meijer. Meijer, who is a Dutch musician, has reportedly fathered around 550 children from around the globe. He is now being sued for his actions because of the high risk of incest that he has created.
According to The Times of London, Meijer was blacklisted from donating sperm by his home country of The Netherlands in 2017. This is because the man donated his sperm to 11 clinics in the Netherlands alone, causing the horrific potential for his children to mate with each other when they are older unknowingly. In total, Meijer has donated his sperm to 13 clinics worldwide. In the Netherlands alone, Meijer has fathered 102 children. The Netherlands has made it illegal for a man to impregnate more than 12 women or father over 25 children.
Meijer, who currently resides in Kenya, is being sued by the Dutch DonorKind Foundation for his actions. The group spoke on the matter, saying, “We are taking action against this man because the government is doing nothing. He has a global reach via the internet and he does business with large, international sperm banks.” Even though he is barred from sperm donations in the Netherlands, Meijer is reportedly still donating his sperm in Denmark and Ukraine.
A Dutch woman who gave birth to one of Meijer’s children in 2018 originally brought on the lawsuit. On the matter, the woman said, “When I think about the consequences this could have for my child I am sick to my stomach. Going to court is the only way to protect my child.” Mark de Hek, who acts as DonorKind’s attorney, said, “We and some of the mothers have approached him. They have asked him to stop. He refused. This is why legal action is the only option to protect children.”
It is not clear why Meijer, who has a peculiar Youtube channel, wants to father so many children. It could be attributed to narcissism, greediness, or just plain old stupidity.
