The governor didn\u2019t realize soon enough where the trouble was,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s putting it gently, though at least Pelosi is on the right track \u2014 for once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just a few weeks before the November election, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul downplayed violent crime in her state, according to the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/24\/kathy-hochul-dismisses-nyer-concerns-on-violent-crime-wave-as-sense-of-fear\/\" target=\"_blank\">New York Post<\/a>, chalking it up to a few \u201chigh-profile\u201d crimes that have \u201ccreated a sense of fear in people\u2019s minds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI deal with real facts and I deal with people\u2019s fear. And I address both. The real facts are, is that we\u2019ve been so aggressive about this, driving down gun violence with getting guns off the streets and all these measures,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dovetailing back to the present, as of Sunday morning, 11 people had already been shot and 3 killed this weekend in New York City alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe violence started [Saturday morning] at around 4 a.m. at the Amadeus Nightclub on Albion Avenue in Queens. An argument inside the club escalated to a shooting outside that killed a 19-year-old man and injured a 31-year-old woman. Police said the suspect escaped in a black and white SUV,\u201d CBS News reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt around 3 p.m., shots rang out on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in Jamaica, where officers found two victims. A 23-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder and a 19-year-old man was shot in the arm. They were hospitalized and expected to be OK. It was not immediately clear if they were the intended targets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A couple hours later around 6:00 pm, local authorities responded after a teenager was shot in the Bronx.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three more hours later, the \u201cnext shooting of the day happened at around 9 p.m. on East 46th Street in Brooklyn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOnce again, police found two victims. A 30-year-old man died after he was shot in the torso. A 28-year-old man was recovering after being shot in the shoulder,\u201d according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/at-least-3-killed-over-weekend-of-gun-violence-in-new-york-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CBS News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAbout an hour later, police found four more gunshot victims in the Bronx, near Morris Avenue and 166th Street in the Councourse Village section. Police said the oldest victim, 33, was shot in the stomach and died. Their fellow Democrats cried foul, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizpacreview.com\/2022\/11\/09\/aoc-easily-reelected-hours-after-boldly-claiming-crime-is-down-in-nyc-and-ragging-on-cops-1306461\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leading the charge<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA lot of people think that crime is up, when we actually see that shootings are down, when we see that huge indicators on the most violent crime in New York City is down,\u201d she said during a radio appearance at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSubway crime is up, but let\u2019s also note that subway crime is up after they committed so many more officers to the subway system.
