Adam Schiff, accusing him of committing mortgage fraud and calling for him to be “brought to justice.” Trump claims Schiff lied about his primary residence for over a decade, manipulating the system for financial gain and cheating the American public in the process.

What Trump Is Saying

In a series of Truth Social posts on Tuesday, Trump unleashed a broadside against Schiff, referring to him as a “scam artist” and “crook.” The accusation centers on a home Schiff owns in suburban Maryland, which Trump claims was fraudulently listed as Schiff’s primary residence in order to secure a lower mortgage rate—despite Schiff serving as a congressman from California during that time.

“Adam Schiff said that his primary residence was in MARYLAND to get a cheaper mortgage and rip off America, when he must LIVE in CALIFORNIA because he was a Congressman from CALIFORNIA,” Trump wrote. He added that the alleged fraud began with a refinancing transaction in 2009 and continued through 2020, when Schiff finally designated the Maryland home as a second residence.

“Mortgage fraud is very serious, and CROOKED Adam Schiff (now a Senator) needs to be brought to justice,” Trump declared.

He later softened slightly when pressed by Fox News, saying, “I don’t know about the individual charge, if that even happened, but Adam Schiff is a serious lowlife.”

The Allegations Behind the Attack

The allegations appear to stem from an October 2024 ethics complaint filed by Republican congressional candidate Christine Bish and Darren Ellis. The complaint accuses Schiff of a “pattern of mortgage fraud, voter fraud, and unlawful campaign filings stretching back over two decades.” It claims Schiff filed mortgage documents listing his Maryland house as a primary residence in 2009, 2011, and 2013—even while listing a separate California condo as his primary home in campaign finance filings.

According to reporting from Just the News and the USA Herald, Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division reviewed the documents and allegedly referred the matter to the Department of Justice. If true, Schiff could be charged for every month he paid the mortgage under false pretenses.

A senior official quoted by the New York Post said the senator “is not taking it seriously,” despite the potential criminal exposure.

Schiff’s Response

Schiff wasted no time firing back. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he brushed off the accusations as yet another “baseless attempt at political retribution.”

“Since I led his first impeachment, Trump has repeatedly called for me to be arrested for treason. So in a way, I guess this is a bit of a letdown,” Schiff wrote. “And this baseless attempt at political retribution won’t stop me from holding him accountable. Not by a long shot.”

A spokesperson for Schiff told Fox News Digital that both of Schiff’s homes “were well known to lenders” and that he was transparent about using them year-round. The spokesperson did not clarify whether either home was officially designated as a vacation property.

Schiff also took a swipe at Trump, saying the allegations were meant to distract from Trump’s “Epstein files problem.”

The Constitution only requires that members of Congress be “inhabitants” of their represented state at the time of election—not necessarily throughout their entire term. So legally, Schiff was allowed to own and even occupy a Maryland home while serving California in Congress. The issue hinges on whether he misrepresented his residency on mortgage documents in a way that violates federal fraud statutes.

According to critics, this isn’t a technicality—it’s a pattern. They point out that Schiff listed both homes as his “primary residence” on different documents over the years. If that’s proven to be intentional deception to secure better financial terms, the legal consequences could be serious.

Schiff’s defenders argue the claims are politically motivated and lack real substance. But even some neutral observers note that Schiff’s credibility has long been under fire, especially after his repeated insistence that there was “ample evidence” of Trump-Russia collusion—a claim that collapsed under the Mueller investigation.

The animosity between Trump and Schiff is no secret. Schiff was a central figure in both of Trump’s impeachments and played a key role on the House Select Committee investigating January 6. In return, Trump has labeled him “Shifty Schiff,” accused him of leaking classified material, and repeatedly called for his arrest.

But even critics of Trump admit that Schiff has made his own bed when it comes to trustworthiness. He promoted debunked narratives, bent the truth on multiple occasions, and rarely faced accountability – at least until now.

Whether this mortgage fraud claim is a legitimate scandal or just the latest round in their political grudge match remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Adam Schiff, long protected by his allies in Washington, is no longer beyond scrutiny.

NP Editor: Normally I wouldn’t appreciate someone being attacked on small charges to get them out of office. After all, this is what Schiff and many others did repeatedly to Donald Trump to remove him from his first presidency and to keep him from his second one.

But Schiff is that special exception in my mind, a man willing to manufacture evidence and then follow it, deceiving millions of Americans and permitting elections to be rigged and stolen. This man is not a patriot, and should not be anywhere near an election.

Former President Donald Trump is once again aiming fire at his longtime political adversary, Sen.
