{"id":537,"date":"2023-01-18T12:31:47","date_gmt":"2023-01-18T17:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/?p=537"},"modified":"2023-01-18T12:32:02","modified_gmt":"2023-01-18T17:32:02","slug":"by-philip-wegmann-for-realclearpolitics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/?p=537","title":{"rendered":"<em>By Philip Wegmann for RealClearPolitics<\/em>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly after the White House announced that a second set of classified documents from the Obama administration was discovered in the Delaware home of the president \u2013 and immediately before Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the appointment of a second special prosecutor into misplaced classified presidential papers\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Joe Biden tried to reassure the country by telling reporters that the sensitive documents were behind locked doors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes, as well as my Corvette,\u201d Biden told Peter Doocy of Fox News, referring to his beloved 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Department of Justice, Garland announced he had assigned U.S. Attorney John Lausch Jr. to conduct an initial investigation to advise him on whether a special counsel was warranted. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI selected him to conduct the&nbsp;initial investigation because I&nbsp;was confident his experience&nbsp;would ensure that it would be&nbsp;done professionally and&nbsp;expeditiously,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBased on Mr. Lausch\u2019s initial investigation, I concluded that,&nbsp;under the special counsel&nbsp;regulations, it was in the public interest to appoint a&nbsp;special counsel,\u201d the attorney general concluded.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White House has not revealed who, other than Biden himself, had access to the documents found in Delaware or the classified intelligence discovered at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But his son Hunter Biden, who is under federal criminal investigation for tax fraud and whom House Republicans plan to subpoena in regard to his foreign business dealings, did have access to the garage.
