More threatening to the psyche of corporate media fixtures like ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos was how “despite all of the baggage,” the GOP leader remained on par with his incumbent rival.

“It is kind of shocking in a way that despite all of the baggage that Donald Trump carries, he’s tied with [President] Joe Biden right now,” the host of “This Week” began a roundtable segment.

That sentiment was readily shared by former Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile who expressed, “When I looked at that recent poll, the Wall Street Journal, I said, ‘This could keep me up at night.’”

According to respondents polled from Aug. 24 – 30, in a head-to-head matchup between Trump and Biden, they are matched at 46 – 46. For the former, that was an improvement over April figures which also showed the incumbent drop down by two points. When third-party candidates like Cornel West and Lars Mapstead were added to the mix, Trump eked out Biden 40 -39.

“With every passing month,” continued Stephanopoulos, “with every new indictment, Donald Trump seems to be consolidating his control over the Republican Party.”

To the host’s point, the poll showed the disparity between the frontrunner and his leading conservative rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and how there had been an 11-point shift since April leaving the governor trailing in this instance by 46 points.

To that, the roundtable moderator took pause at the fact that during the first primary debate, “Republicans, almost unanimously now, on that stage several days ago would vote for a convicted felon. Did you ever think you’d see the day?”

Of course, Stephanopoulos had oversimplified his analysis, glancing over the fact that part of the requirements to appear on the debate stage included signing a pledge to support the ultimate nominee. No caveats were made as to whether that individual would be slapped with a conviction from a weaponized Justice Department.

In fact, the majority of Republican primary voters polled have discounted the left’s narrative supporting the Trump indictments, particularly as it relates to the case in Fulton County, Georgia where the president had been accused of attempting to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election in the state.

The Wall Street Journal poll found 78 percent believed Trump was justified in his actions pursuing election integrity and more than 60 percent thought the charges being brought against the president were politically motivated.

The Atlantic’s Reihan Salam spoke to that when he said, “The truth is that we are in a very polarized moment. And when you’re looking at the Republican Party, it is strikingly unified. If you look at the most conservative voters and the party, they back the former president disproportionately. If you look at more moderate voters, female Republican primary voters, he just really has a lock on both wings of the party, so to speak. And that’s something that any rival has to appreciate it and respect.”

Original Article: https://americanwirenews.com/george-stephanopoulos-torn-up-over-shocking-poll-showing-trump-and-biden-tied/

Trump Derangement Syndrome surged during a Sunday show panel as “shocking” presidential polling threatened some speakers’ well-being. “This could keep me up at night.” The lawfare against former President Donald Trump has endured with no apparent detriment to his status as the frontrunner in the Republican presidential primary.
