However, as always, these discussions neglect a significant factor in this debate: The role of armed citizens in preventing or mitigating mass shootings. The&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2023\/08\/massive-errors-in-fbis-active-shooting-reports-from-2014-2022-regarding-cases-where-civilians-stop-attacks-instead-of-4-6-the-correct-number-is-at-least-35-7-in-2022-it-is-at-least-41-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crime Prevention Research Center<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>(CPRC) sheds more light on a reality of which most Americans remain unaware.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>When was the last time you saw a report detailing how an armed citizen foiled a mass shooting? Chances are that the answer is \u201cnever.\u201d But numbers available in this article verify it happens more often than we think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">The report noted that the FBI\u2019s statistics on these cases do not tell the whole story. The Bureau says armed citizens have stopped only 14 out of the 302 active shooter incidents between 2014 and 2022. The media has used these numbers to paint the picture that this rarely happens.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">However, the CPRC\u2019s report reveals that 41 percent of active shooting incidents were stopped by armed citizens. Furthermore, in incidents taking place outside of \u201cgun-free zones,\u201d 63 percent of active shooting cases were stopped by a \u201cgood guy with a gun.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization\u2019s report shows that, in reality, armed civilians stopped about 157 out of 440 active shooter situations during the aforementioned time period. Dr. John R. Lott Jr., the head of the CPRC, indicated that this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/wardclark\/2023\/08\/31\/dr-john-lott-fbi-data-on-active-shootings-is-misleading-n2163287\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discrepancy<\/a>&nbsp;is the result of FBI oversights and misclassifications, including omitting cases in which armed citizens scared away attackers or were mistaken for security personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CPRC also provides a&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2023\/08\/cases-where-armed-citizens-have-stopped-active-shooter-incidents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">list of local news stories<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;detailing incidents in which an armed civilian stopped a mass shooter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">One example&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/portland\/2014\/01\/grand_jury_found_no_criminal_w.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">occurred<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;in 2014 when a gunman opened fire at Mystic Gentleman\u2019s Club in Portland, Oregon. After shooting three people, he was fatally shot by an armed citizen.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Another&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-york\/islip\/s\/hd21h\/police-id-men-involved-in-suffolk-shooting-that-left-1-dead?utm_source=alert-breakingnews&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=alert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>incident<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;occurred in 2020 in Commack, New York, where a gunman showed up at a homeless shelter demanding to be taken to a resident living there:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">A shelter employee led the gunman to the man\u2019s room, where he was living with a teenager and a toddler. The gunman ordered everyone to the lobby\u2014where he was confronted by the resident\u2019s relative. A shootout ensued inside and outside the facility between the two. The shelter visitor was fatally shot, while the resident\u2019s relative was seriously wounded.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the $64,000 question(s), people:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Why are these stories rarely given any attention?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Why don\u2019t news outlets provide the type of wall-to-wall coverage that other active shooter situations get?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhetorical, yes? We already know the answers, don\u2019t we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether these are strategic or tactical omissions is a toss-up. The point being, however, this is a tool of the Left and the mass propaganda media to push for more gun restrictions without addressing the inconvenient truth that&nbsp;<strong>lawful gun owners are often the first line of defense against a would-be mass shooter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last thing the Left or their colluding mass propaganda media would want is for people to discover that&nbsp;<strong>having a firearm increases one\u2019s chances of stopping a crazed gunman with a vendetta<\/strong>. God forbid, this too may inspire even more people to become gun owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note: The mass propaganda media lies by omission\u2014deceiving the public by omitting entire stories or selected details is the easier route for them.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Thanks to&nbsp;<strong>CPRC<\/strong>&nbsp;and people like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/08\/31\/fbi-armed-citizens-active-shooters-gun-violence-john-lott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>John R.
