Rosenblum, assistant secretary of defense for nuclear, chemical, and biological defense programs, recently\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/News-Stories\/Article\/Article\/3502656\/pentagon-official-calls-for-total-force-focus-on-emerging-biothreats\/\" target=\"_blank\">noted<\/a>\u00a0that the United States is facing a rapidly increasing number of biological threats across the globe, including those posed by \u201ccompetitors, non-state actors and naturally occurring pandemics\u201d that require an \u201cintegrated\u201d focus by the Department of Defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosenblum suggested that an \u201cintegrated deterrence\u201d against biological threats will require a \u201ccombat credible force\u201d that is \u201ccapable of fighting through biothreats and being resilient\u201d in the face of increasing dangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese threats certainly impact the readiness and resilience of our military forces,\u201d Rosenblum claimed. \u201cBiodefense is no longer something that\u2019s the purview of just specialized units who have traditionally been worried about these threats.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pentagon released its first&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2023\/Aug\/17\/2003282337\/-1\/-1\/1\/2023_BIODEFENSE_POSTURE_REVIEW.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biodefense Posture Review<\/a>&nbsp;earlier this month, which outlines how the Department of Defense can make changes to effectively guard against biothreats from now until 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Department of Defense, the Biodefense Posture Review was ordered by Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III in a 2021 memo that unveiled the department\u2019s vision for biodefense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Biodefense Posture Review emphasizes the need for early warning protocols and the proper understanding of new biological threats, preparing the military to respond to biological threats, improving the Defense Department\u2019s collaboration to strengthen America\u2019s biodefense, and mitigating the impact of biological threats on the department\u2019s missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are at a pivotal point in biodefense,\u201d Rosenblum said. \u201cWe must maintain our momentum to prepare for any number of complex potential biological threats.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reforms listed under the Biodefense Posture Review will be implemented by a new biodefense council, which will be led by Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment William A.
