Tanden, former president of the left-wing Center for American Progress, was put forth by the newly minted president as his nominee to head the Office of Management and Budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, people starting looking at her old tweets.\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-omb-nominee-bad-even-bernie-sanders-blasting-vicious-attacks\/\" target=\"_blank\">She called<\/a>\u00a0Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell \u201cVoldemort\u201d in one of them. When Rupert Murdoch\u2019s house caught fire in 2017, she tweeted, \u201cThere\u2019s a God. And she\u2019s unhappy.\u201d She also\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2021\/02\/25\/neera-tanden-tweets-471564\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0that \u201ca vampire has more heart than Ted Cruz.\u201d You know, fun stuff like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Senator Bernie Sanders confronts Biden&#39;s OMB nominee Neera Tanden for her \u201cvicious attacks\u201d against Democrats and Republicans<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XU9MDcJwrV\">https:\/\/t.co\/XU9MDcJwrV<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OBnKWxKqQz\">pic.twitter.com\/OBnKWxKqQz<\/a><\/p>&mdash; RNC Research (@RNCResearch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1359531070383935490?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 10, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanden was forced to withdraw after it became clear she didn\u2019t have the support necessary to clear the nomination process. However, she never really went away, working as an adviser and staff secretary in the Biden administration until she was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/dpc\/about-the-director-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appointed director<\/a>&nbsp;of the of the United States Domestic Policy Council in May, replacing the outgoing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/susan-rice-conducts-smokey-new-age-smudging-ritual-heart-white-house-expel-trumps-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Susan Rice<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday, Tanden appeared at a White House media briefing and managed to provide an object lesson in how we dodged a bullet thanks to her mean tweets \u2014 as well as providing a salient argument that director of the United States Domestic Policy Council should also require Senate approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanden was there to talk about the benefits of the inaptly named&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-truth-inflation-reduction-act-slip-wish-hadnt-called\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inflation Reduction Act<\/a>, which was basically an environmentalist giveaway with a profoundly misleading name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In between the green energy subsidies it helped pay for, however, there were a few crumbs of the largesse, which could technically be construed as inflation-fighting, particularly in healthcare subsidies \u2014 which Tanden was trotted out to talk up on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom day one, President Biden and the Biden-Harris administration have been focused on lowering healthcare costs for all Americans because we know healthcare costs can be a huge economic stress for families,\u201d she claimed, according to a White House&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2023\/08\/16\/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-fema-administrator-criswell-senior-advisor-for-clean-energy-innovation-podesta-and-domestic-policy-advisor-tanden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transcript<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why the Inflation Reduction Act lowers these costs \u2014 these care costs for millions of Americans. It\u2019s already doing so. Fifteen million people are continuing to save $800 a year on their health insurance premiums. Seniors are already seeing lifesaving benefits of this law: $35 out-of \u2014 $35 out-of-pocket cap on insulin; free recommended vaccines, like shingles and tetanus; lower out-of-pocket coinsurance for certain drugs that raised prices faster than inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, that\u2019s just dandy \u2014 but it\u2019s not as if Americans can\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dick-morris-biden-likes-open-borders-high-gas-prices-inflation-unemployment\/\" target=\"_blank\">fill their gas tanks<\/a>\u00a0with insulin or put tetanus shots on the dinner table, something a reporter confronted her about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou talk about the \u2014 the insulin costs being reduced and the caps for seniors. And all that\u2019s great for people who do this regularly,\u201d the reporter said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut for most people, you know, it\u2019s grocery stores and gas stations. Those are the places where they\u2019re spending money out of pocket most regularly. What do you say to them? I mean, other than just \u2018Hang tight, it\u2019s getting better.\u2019 Because there doesn\u2019t seem to be anything in \u2014 in the bill \u2014 in the legislation that addresses that specifically. Is that right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a preemptory TL;DR recap of Tanden\u2019s answer: \u201cUm, insulin. And we know that pharmaceutical costs, drug costs are driving healthcare costs \u2014 driving healthcare costs up,\u201d Tanden said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019d say prescription drug costs are very resonant with the American people, and that is why prescription drug costs a \u2014 addressing prescri- \u2014 addressing prescription drugs and lowering prescription drug costs is a key part of the Inflation Reduction Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe president has fought very hard for these provisions. Many have tried and failed, and he succeeded in getting the Congress, for the first time, to ensure that we have Medicare drug negotiation,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese prices are a big component of what people are experiencing every day in terms of high costs. And \u2014 and we can see from public polling why there is such a great demand. And despite pharma\u2019s attacks over the course of a year, this kind \u2014 the past Congress actually passed this legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perfect answer. Ten out of 10. Great work. Now, excuse me as I drive my insulin-powered Honda to the local&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/california-walgreens-resorts-chaining-freezers-thieves-repeatedly-raid-pizza-ice-cream-sections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Walgreens<\/a>, so I can pick up the ingredients to make tonight\u2019s dinner, MMR vaccine au gratin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s interesting that somebody who is at no loss for words when she\u2019s engaging in incendiary troll-posting after Rupert Murdoch\u2019s house catches on fire somehow turns into a deer in rhetorical headlights after being asked about something that, you know, is part of her job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But then, it\u2019s almost hard to blame her. This is how incompetent the White House she works for is. All Tanden did was give the media a front-row seat to the madness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, the Biden administration has never been able to come up a reasonable spin on the upward spiral in the cost of living. First\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-biden-outright-admits-lost-control-economy-isnt-certain-prices-headed\/\" target=\"_blank\">it was transitory<\/a>. Then\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-tells-americans-will-pay-high-gas-prices-long-takes-defeat-putin\/\" target=\"_blank\">it was Putin\u2019s fault<\/a>. The current line is that, even though inflation is still\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/inflation-rises-months-decline-new-bureau-labor-statistics-report-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\">well above healthy levels<\/a>, it\u2019s not like the nearly double-digit numbers we were putting up in 2022 \u2014 so Bidenomics is winning! Hooray!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, at least these excuses were actual excuses. Tanden didn\u2019t even bother providing&nbsp;<em>that<\/em>. A reporter noted that, while insulin-price caps may alleviate pressure for certain Americans, gas and grocery prices affect&nbsp;<em>every<\/em>&nbsp;American. He then asked if she could speak to that. Her response, distilled: \u201cUm, uh, aren\u2019t those insulin-price caps grand?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nice try, Neera.
