The proof is in the numbers, with poll after poll indicating an alarming downward trend across all age groups and demographics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But a recent Gallup Poll shows the most jarring statistic. Among young adult Americans, the percentage that feels \u201cextremely proud\u201d to be an American has plummeted to the tune of over 60 percentage points.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The numbers tell one piece of this story, while our current state of affairs, both culturally and within our government, tells the other piece \u2013 the \u2018why\u2019 behind these awful statistics. Let\u2019s peek at the numbers and then dive into the brutal truth behind what is happening to our nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The share of people who say they&#39;re &quot;extremely proud&quot; to be an American has been falling for years, according to new Gallup data. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yOtZkST8kU\">pic.twitter.com\/yOtZkST8kU<\/a><\/p>&mdash; unusual_whales (@unusual_whales) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/unusual_whales\/status\/1677326855370842112?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 7, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By the numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the recent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/507980\/extreme-pride-american-remains-near-record-low.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gallup Poll<\/a>, 39% of adults are \u201cextremely proud\u201d to be American. Within those numbers, the poll found that Americans aged 55 and older were three times more likely to be extremely prideful of their country than younger adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The breakdown by age is as follows for adults \u201cextremely proud\u201d to be American:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>50% of those aged 55 and older<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>40% of those between the ages of 35 and 54<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>18% of those between the ages of 18 and 34<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As if 18% wasn\u2019t an alarming enough number for the young Americans running around hating the Red, White, and Blue, it looks even worse when compared to earlier numbers. In 2013, 85% of Americans between 18 and 29 were \u201cextremely\u201d or \u201cvery\u201d proud to be American.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In just 10 years, the percentage of 18-29 year olds saying they were very proud or extremely proud to be an American fell by half. Their attitude is not the problem \u2014 it is the symptom. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Kennedy24?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Kennedy24<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XzoWn6r0gb\">https:\/\/t.co\/XzoWn6r0gb<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Robert F. Kennedy Jr (@RobertKennedyJr) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobertKennedyJr\/status\/1683503045382897666?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 24, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In ten years, the percentage of young adult Americans who are extremely proud of being American has taken a stark nosedive from over 80% to under 20%. Chew on that for a moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like most statistics coming out this year that are depressing, the downward trend in patriotism has been steadily taking a free fall since 2005; it just so happens to be near record lows today. But this poll isn\u2019t the only indicator of a nation with a bad case of national sads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Depressing statistics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March of this year, a poll&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/03\/27\/values-like-patriotism-religion-falling-out-of-favor-among-americans-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a>&nbsp;that only 38% of Americans consider patriotism \u201cvery important\u201d in their lives. This number is down from 61% in 2019 and 70% in 1998.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2021 the Pew Research Center&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2021\/12\/16\/younger-americans-still-more-likely-than-older-adults-to-say-there-are-other-countries-better-than-the-u-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a>&nbsp;that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201croughly four-in-ten adults ages 18 to 29 (42%) say there are other countries that are better than the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clearly, these young guns haven\u2019t been to some of the countries I had the displeasure to serve in when I was in the Air Force. But my favorite numbers come from last year\u2019s Annenberg Public Policy Center annual survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.annenbergpublicpolicycenter.org\/americans-civics-knowledge-drops-on-first-amendment-and-branches-of-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a>&nbsp;that only 47% of adults could name all three branches of our government. Additionally, less than 1 in 4 (24%) could name freedom of religion as one of the First Amendment freedoms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Annenberg Public Policy Center director Kathleen Hall Jamieson gets to one of the root causes of our decline in patriotism:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cWhen it comes to civics, knowledge is power. It\u2019s troubling that so few know what rights we\u2019re guaranteed by the First Amendment. We are unlikely to cherish, protect, and exercise rights if we don\u2019t know that we have them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which brings me to my next set of statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">11 states don\u2019t require 1\/2 yr study in US civics, history or govt. Sheer ignorance of millions of Americans of basic tenets of US Constitution helped lead us here. If you don\u2019t learn the Bill of Rights as a child you don\u2019t know as an adult to be horrified when it\u2019s under assault<\/p>&mdash; Marianne Williamson (@marwilliamson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marwilliamson\/status\/1305354712670187520?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 14, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u2019t know much about history<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Assessment of Educational Progress dropped a slew of depressing numbers in this year\u2019s National Report Card. Relevant to this particular subject, they\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/05\/03\/1173432887\/history-and-civics-scores-drop-for-u-s-eighth-graders-on-national-test\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that only 14% of 8th graders are \u201cproficient\u201d in history, and only 22% are \u201cproficient\u201d in civics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a young age, we are failing our country and molding Americans who aren\u2019t proud of the nation they live in. Not understanding our history, how our government works, how it was formed, and for what purposes directly leads to the decline in patriotism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This problem feeds directly into other issues, such as the decrease in young Americans wanting to serve their country, a decline in Americans wanting to work, an increase in criminal activity, and an increase in overall feelings of depression and hopelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Senator Marsha Blackburn&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesfreepress.com\/news\/2023\/jul\/03\/marsha-blackburn-blames-us-decrease-in-patriotism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cAmerica is experiencing a crisis of confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of teaching actual history and civics, the left-wing zealots who have pulled the puppet strings of our education system have been teaching revisionist history. And as the Senator called it, \u201caction civics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We went from educating our youth on being active participants in their government to indoctrinating them into social justice warriors hell-bent on tearing the government down.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">But are they even teaching math?<br><br>The most recent National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), commonly called the Nation\u2019s Report Card, should terrify parents. The survey said: \u201c13% of eighth graders are proficient in US history, and only 22% are proficient in civics.\u201d\u2026<\/p>&mdash; Liberty Nation (@libertynation) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/libertynation\/status\/1666462572839686147?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 7, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hard to feel proud of a country you are taught to hate from a young age. Hard to feel hopeful for the future when you are told there is nothing you can do to elevate your status if you are a minority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hard to feel proud of anything if you are taught that you are a part of an inherently racist country because of your skin color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A dog in the fight<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not surprisingly, the Gallup Poll did find that Republicans tend to be markedly more patriotic than Democrats. According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/07\/25\/millennials-gen-z-american-pride-decline-patriotism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll<\/a>, those who considered themselves \u201cextremely proud\u201d by political affiliation were as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>60% of Republicans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>33% of independents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>29% of Democrats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The party that preaches negativity sells lies and wants to tell us we can\u2019t achieve greatness without their intervention would naturally be less proud of a country built on the idea that anyone and everyone has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Being proud to be an American, to have patriotism is born of something few Americans have these days \u2013 a willingness to self-sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a time when society, the government, and education system want to tell you that your own identity and your own truth matter more than reality and actual truth, there isn\u2019t room for a concept such as self-sacrifice. To be willing to fight for one\u2019s rights, country, and freedom is to be willing to sacrifice your own life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ll leave you with one last statistic. In 2021 the Pew Research Center\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2023\/06\/28\/a-record-high-share-of-40-year-olds-in-the-us-have-never-been-married\/\" target=\"_blank\">found<\/a>\u00a0that 25% of adults over 40 have never been married compared to just 6% in 1980.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Faith, patriotism, hard work, and family are on the decline. That leaves a moral vacuum in its wake. Climateism, Covidism, wokeism, and gender ideology fill the void. Elon Musk once&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/07\/03\/americans-down-on-god-family-country-patriotism-polling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;recently:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cThe childless have little stake in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am indeed disappointed in aspects of our government, I am highly critical of our civilian and uniform leaders, and I am fearful of the direction our country could be heading. But my pride in being an American has always remained strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have been all over the globe, and I can tell you on our worst days, we are still the best place to live, and this is the best place to raise a family.
