Matthew Graves \u2014 a donor to then-candidate Joe Biden\u2019s 2020 presidential campaign \u2014 \u201crefused to bring charges\u201d against Hunter Biden for tax evasion, IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley confirmed on Wednesday in his damning testimony before the House Oversight Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Justice Department allowed the president\u2019s political appointees to weigh in on whether to charge the president\u2019s son,\u201d Shapley stated in his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Shapley-Testimony.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opening remarks<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves, appointed by President Biden, refused to bring charges in March 2022, I watched U.S. Attorney [David] Weiss tell a room full of senior FBI and IRS senior leaders on October 7, 2022, that he was \u2018not the deciding person on whether charges were filed,&#8217;\u201d the whistleblower, who spent 14 years serving as a Special Agent for the IRS Criminal Investigation (CI), continued. \u201cThat was my red line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Brave Whistleblower Gary Shapley says Biden\u2019s DOJ allowed the President&#39;s political appointees to weigh in on whether to charge the President&#39;s son.<br><br>\u201cAfter U.S. Attorney for D.C. Following a recommendation from Democratic D.C. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, President Biden\u2019s administration gave Graves the nomination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While still at DLA Piper, Graves made two separate donations to Biden\u2019s presidential campaign, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGraves gave Biden for President $500 in April 2020 and $1,000 in May 2020 during the Democratic presidential primary,\u201d the Daily Caller revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ian Sam, White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, dismissed the claims made by Shapley and the House Oversight hearing as nothing more than \u201cpolitical stunts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInstead of wasting time on politically-motivated attacks on a Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney, the rule of law, and the independence of our justice system, House Republicans should join President Biden to focus on the issues most important to the American people like continuing to lower inflation, create jobs, and strengthen health care,\u201d Sam said when asked for a comment by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/whistleblower-confirms-attorney-donated-biden-2020-campaign-refused-charges-hunter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News Digital<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are real issues Americans want us to be spending our time on, and President Biden believes we can work together to make real progress, if House Republicans would make an effort instead of constantly staging partisan stunts to try to damage him politically,\u201d he added. \u201cPresident Biden has upheld his commitment that this matter would be handled independently by the Justice Department, under the leadership of a Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, a Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson insisted that Weiss has \u201cfull authority\u201d when it came to filing charges against the first son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs both the Attorney General and U.S. Attorney David Weiss have said, U.S. Attorney Weiss has full authority over this matter, including responsibility for deciding where, when, and whether to file charges as he deems appropriate,\u201d the spokesperson told Fox News. \u201cHe needs no further approval to do so.
