His victim has filed a restraining order against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn July 3, 2023, the Rensselaer County Sheriff\u2019s Office arrested Dia A. Beshara, a 39-year-old resident of Schaghticoke,\u201d said the Sheriff\u2019s Office on Facebook. \u201cBeshara was charged with Assault in the Second Degree at the conclusion of a 15-month investigation. The investigation began when the female victim reported that, while she was pregnant, Beshara gave her a drug, Mifepristone, without her knowledge, causing a miscarriage. It acts to block the naturally-occurring pregnancy hormone progesterone, which works during the first weeks of pregnancy to sustain the developing preborn baby\u2019s life. Progesterone also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.marchofdimes.org\/complications\/progesterone-treatment-to-help-prevent-premature-birth.aspx#:~:text=Progesterone%20is%20a%20hormone.,it%20may%20lead%20to%20miscarriage.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prevents<\/a>&nbsp;muscle contractions in the uterus that would cause the woman\u2019s body to reject the newly-created life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The abortion pill previously had REMS [Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy] safety protocols in place which required women to be examined prior to being given the abortion pill and take mifepristone in person due to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/obgyn-severe-complications-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">complications<\/a>&nbsp;associated with it, including the deadly risks if taken with an ectopic pregnancy. But during the Covid-19 pandemic, the FDA relaxed the safety rules and allowed for mail distribution of the abortion pill temporarily. By December 2021, the Biden FDA had further&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-permanently-loosens-abortion-pill-safety-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weakened<\/a>&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/drug-safety-and-availability\/risk-evaluation-and-mitigation-strategies-rems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">REMS<\/a>&nbsp;by eliminating the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-removes-abortion-pill-safety-protocols-drug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in-person dispensing requirement<\/a>&nbsp;and enabling the abortion pill to be permanently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-permanently-loosens-abortion-pill-safety-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shipped by mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This opened the door for men, including Beshara, to give women the abortion pill without their knowledge.&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theunchoice.com\/coerced.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Studies<\/a>&nbsp;show that 64% of women who have undergone abortions felt pressured to do so. That pressure can come from parents, boyfriends, employers, and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April of 2022, Jeffery Smith was sentenced to 20 years in prison as part of a plea agreement after he was convicted of attempted first-degree intentional homicide of a preborn child who was 21 weeks old at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jin Mimae was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-man-arrested-tricking-girlfriend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrested<\/a>&nbsp;in February 2021 for tricking his pregnant girlfriend into taking mifepristone. Upon his arrest, he told police, \u201cI didn\u2019t want to marry her,\u201d adding, \u201cBecause of the current economic conditions, I did not want to raise a child.\u201d He had ordered mifepristone online the same day his girlfriend had a positive pregnancy test and told her they were to treat an STD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/easy-access-abortion-pill-coercion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">list<\/a>&nbsp;of such heinous acts goes on and the popularity of mail-order abortion pills is only&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/survey-abortion-facilities-lowest-pill-business-grows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rising<\/a>. The abortion pill has been found to be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-four-times-dangerous-surgical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">four times more dangerous<\/a>&nbsp;for women than a first-trimester surgical abortion.
