President Joe Biden signed an executive order in February that requires AI to be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/02\/16\/biden-orders-federal-agencies-to-ensure-their-use-of-ai-advances-equity\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">regulated<\/a>&nbsp;so that it advances \u201cequity in support of all those who face overlapping discrimination and bias.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leaders at the discussion sat in silence as Harris explained that AI is \u201ctwo letters\u201d and stands for artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe first part of this issue that should be articulated is AI is kind of a fancy thing. First of all, it\u2019s two letters. It means artificial intelligence,\u201d Harris said. \u201cIt\u2019s about machine learning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe machine is taught, and part of the issue here is what information is going into the machine, that will then determine \u2014 and we can predict then, if we think about what information is going in \u2013 what then will be produced, in terms of decisions and opinions that may be made through that process,\u201d said Harris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tune in as I discuss artificial intelligence and reaffirm the Administration\u2019s commitment to protecting Americans from harm and discrimination. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DVVAwX6Czd\">https:\/\/t.co\/DVVAwX6Czd<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Vice President Kamala Harris (@VP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VP\/status\/1679178386428641292?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 12, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harris has been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/05\/04\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-announces-new-actions-to-promote-responsible-ai-innovation-that-protects-americans-rights-and-safety\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spearheading<\/a>&nbsp;efforts to rally tech companies around Biden administration initiatives to bring \u201cequity\u201d to AI and ensure it protects \u201cpeople\u2019s rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One issue that was \u201ca very big concern\u201d for Harris was \u201cmisinformation and disinformation\u201d stemming from AI use, as well as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/06\/09\/white-house-zients-ai-top-issue-biden\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">threat<\/a>&nbsp;it could pose to \u201cbasic human rights.\u201d Harris also stated that the technology poses a risk to senior citizens who could fall for \u201cpredatory\u201d AI-generated scams, and to minority groups based on race, disability, or socioeconomic status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides senior citizens, Harris did not clarify why the other minority groups she named would be \u201cvulnerable\u201d to AI technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cInnovation has so much possibility to improve the condition of human life. And to the extent that we can encourage that approach, we should,\u201d Harris said. \u201cWe should not dampen or in any way slow down innovation that can improve the condition of people\u2019s lives.
