But when it comes to promoting her literary career, Sotomayor is free to do what other government officials cannot because the Supreme Court does not have a formal code of conduct, leaving the nine justices to largely write and enforce their own rules\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u2026 Supreme Court staffers have been deeply involved in organizing speaking engagements intended to sell books. That is conduct prohibited for members of Congress and the executive branch, who are barred under ethics rules from using government resources, including staff, for personal financial gain. Lower federal court judges are also instructed to not \u201clend the prestige of the judicial office to advance\u201d their \u201cprivate interests.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Liberal Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor\u2019s staff pushed colleges and a library to purchase copies of her book when she traveled there for speaking engagements. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wLg3Rm45Uy\">https:\/\/t.co\/wLg3Rm45Uy<\/a><\/p>&mdash; The Hill (@thehill) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thehill\/status\/1678780204117012483?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 11, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other words, American taxpayers are helping funnel millions into Sotomayor\u2019s pockets through pressure tactics that result in lots of purchased books nobody wants to read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Business Insider reported, Sotomayor\u2019s book sales\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/other\/supreme-court-staffer-pressured-public-library-to-buy-more-of-sonia-sotomayor-s-books-250-books-is-definitely-not-enough\/ar-AA1dIQw5\">intertwine<\/a>\u00a0with her service as a Justice; A move that would have the left tearing their hair out if this probing came from conservative Justice\u2019s staffers.
