{"id":401,"date":"2023-01-16T10:43:12","date_gmt":"2023-01-16T15:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/?p=401"},"modified":"2023-01-16T10:43:12","modified_gmt":"2023-01-16T15:43:12","slug":"bidens-war-on-gas-stoves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/?p=401","title":{"rendered":"BIDEN\u2019S WAR ON GAS STOVES"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Biden administration launched a war against gas stoves, claiming they create harmful pollutants and may contribute to asthma in children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, an agency commissioner with the U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) told&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-01-09\/us-safety-agency-to-consider-ban-on-gas-stoves-amid-health-fears?%3FleadSource=uverify+wall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Bloomberg<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;that a ban on gas stoves in homes is \u201con the table,\u201d citing the appliance\u2019s link&nbsp;to serious health conditions&nbsp;such as respiratory illness, cancer, and childhood asthma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Natural gas stoves are used in about 40% of homes in the U.S. The administration claims gas stoves emit air pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and fine particulate matter at levels the EPA and World Health Organization have said are unsafe and linked to respiratory illness, cardiovascular problems, cancer, and other health conditions, according to reports by groups such as the Institute for Policy Integrity and the American Chemical Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indoor air pollution is the pollution (or contamination) of the indoor air caused by pollutants and sources like Carbon Monoxide, Particulate Matter (PM 2.5), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Radon, Mold, and Ozone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consumer Reports, in October, urged consumers planning to buy a new range to consider going electric after tests conducted by the group found high levels of nitrogen oxide gases from gas stoves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a hidden hazard,\u201d Richard Trumka Jr., an agency commissioner, said in an interview. \u201cAny option is on the table. Products that can\u2019t be made safe can be banned.\u201d He added the commission could consider imposing new emissions standards on the appliances. Asthma affects about 5 million children across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scientists and activists cheer the&nbsp;<strong>Consumer Product Safety Commission<\/strong>\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/3775458-consumer-safety-board-to-weigh-regulations-on-gas-stoves\/\"><strong>recent decision<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to weigh new regulations on indoor air pollution from gas stoves,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-future-of-your-gas-stove\">THE FUTURE OF YOUR GAS STOVE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The low cost of natural gas has been a sigh of relief for Europeans caught in the middle of one of the worst energy crises in history because of the debacle in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Large cities like Los Angeles and New York are leading the way in banning natural gas appliances in new homes and buildings, and California, where natural gas produces 5% of the state\u2019s air pollution each year, is also on track to ban&nbsp;furnaces and water heaters&nbsp;that rely on the energy source by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The New York City Council voted in 2021 to ban natural gas hookups in new buildings smaller than seven stories by the end of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consumers who want to switch from gas to electric ranges can get help from the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes rebates of up to $840 for purchasing new electric ranges as part of some $4.5 billion in funding to help low\/moderate-income households electrify their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;American Gas Association, a powerful trade group representing the U.S. natural gas industry, slammed the study\u2019s methodology and findings, accusing the authors of pursuing a \u201cheadline-grabbing approach\u201d that lacked scientific rigor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe claims made in this paper are clearly driven by simple advocacy-based modeling and hypotheticals over the deep and sophisticated analysis we should see in sound science,\u201d&nbsp;Karen Harbert, the association\u2019s president and chief executive, said in an emailed statement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe authors conducted no measurements or tests based on real-life appliance usage, emissions rates or exposures, and did not adequately consider other factors that are known to contribute to asthma and other respiratory health outcomes,\u201d Harbert added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/marketintelligence\/en\/news-insights\/latest-news-headlines\/states-that-outlaw-gas-bans-account-for-31-of-us-residential-commercial-gas-use-70749584\"><strong>Twenty states<\/strong><\/a>, whose consumption makes up about one-third of the U.S.\u2019s total natural gas use, have passed legislation blocking any attempt to ban gas hookups in new construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-other-air-pollutants\">OTHER AIR POLLUTANTS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There can be many other things that can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoengineeringwatch.org\/climate-engineering-fact-and-photo-summary\/\"><strong>pollute<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;the air other than a kitchen gas stove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Things like Climate Engineering can cause&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.naturalnews.com\/041201_chemtrails_nanoparticles_degenerative_disease.html\"><strong>issues<\/strong><\/a>, which include an array of daily&nbsp;<strong>aluminum<\/strong>&nbsp;nanoparticles&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=G_NYNt1I6-Q&amp;t\"><strong>sprayed<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;in the air we breathe, which the government claims help with the earth\u2019s warming. These aluminum nanoparticles can cause&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoengineeringwatch.org\/documents-2\/\"><strong>asthma<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and pulmonary disease and penetrate the brain in the areas most affected by Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gas advocates argue that gas appliance health concerns are minuscule compared to other things like cigarettes. Environmental law experts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/02\/17\/politics\/natural-gas-ban-preemptive-laws-gop-climate\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>say<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;gas stoves are \u201clow-hanging fruit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the\u00a0Clean Air Act, the\u00a0Environmental Protection Agency\u00a0has the authority to regulate outdoor air pollution from cars, power plants, and other sources.
