Catherine Herridge (@CBS_Herridge) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CBS_Herridge\/status\/1648813211993403394?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hunter Biden is\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/hunter-biden-case-decision-paused-amid-discussions-between-defense-lawyers-and-prosecutors-11665094544?mod=article_inline\" target=\"_blank\">facing an investigation<\/a>\u00a0into his taxes and whether he made a false statement related to a gun purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Journal\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/hunter-biden-case-decision-paused-amid-discussions-between-defense-lawyers-and-prosecutors-11665094544?mod=article_inline\" target=\"_blank\">previously reported<\/a>\u00a0investigators \u201chave believed for months there was enough evidence to charge him on tax and gun-related charges.\u201d In October, the paper reported a final decision was on hold as there were ongoing discussions with Biden\u2019s defense lawyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CBS News reported the senior political appointee referenced in the letter is Attorney General Merrick Garland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March, Garland\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/irs-whistleblower-says-u-s-is-mishandling-hunter-biden-probe-7cd127f2?st=8bfedqlosk4410f\" target=\"_blank\">testified\u00a0<\/a>before the Senate about the U.S. attorney conducting the investigation \u2014 who was appointed by former President Donald Trump.
