Medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles will be 46% and 25% all-electric by 2032, the EPA projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRENDING:<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnd.com\/2023\/04\/legal-lifeline-j6-defendants\/\">A legal lifeline for J6 defendants?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, just 5.8% of all new car sales in the U.S. were all-electric, and just 2% of all heavy-duty truck sales were all-electric,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/f4JFZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to the New York Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For smaller passenger vehicles, the upfront cost of purchasing an electric vehicle could be between $3,500 to $7,100 greater than a comparable combustion vehicle, depending on make and model,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2023-04\/420d23003.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">according<\/a>\u00a0to an EPA cost-benefit analysis. While the EPA assumes that customers will offset the price with a $7,500 tax credit from the Inflation Reduction Act,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/03\/31\/manchin-electric-vehicles-tax-credits-00089700\" target=\"_blank\">recent rules<\/a>\u00a0from the Treasury Department would exclude several electric vehicles from eligibility,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/04\/12\/biden-ev-epa-proposal-00091543\" target=\"_blank\">according<\/a>\u00a0to Politico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>WND is now on Trump&#8217;s Truth Social!&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@WNDNews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Follow us @WNDNews<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy proposing the most ambitious pollution standards ever for cars and trucks, we are delivering on the Biden-Harris Administration\u2019s promise to protect people and the planet, securing critical reductions in dangerous air and climate pollution and ensuring significant economic benefits like lower fuel and maintenance costs for families,\u201d EPA Administrator Michael Regan said in the agency\u2019s press release. \u201cThese ambitious standards are readily achievable thanks to President Biden\u2019s Investing in America agenda, which is already driving historic progress to build more American-made electric cars and secure America\u2019s global competitiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Joe Biden in 2021 signed an executive order directing the government to establish policies that would make 50% of passenger vehicle sales all-electric by 2030, the NYT reported.
