About one-third of the funding would go into grants to outside groups, and the newly proposed budget would approximately double the agency\u2019s funding for civil rights issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies has not always ensured the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income,\u201d Regan said. \u201cIn the long term, the vigorous enforcement of civil rights laws will address historical and systemic barriers that contribute to the environmental injustice affecting vulnerable communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The funding request was originally included in the agency\u2019s 2024 budget&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2023-03\/fy-2024-epa-bib.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">proposal<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe FY 2024 Budget will expand upon the FY 2023 enacted budget to enhance the Agency\u2019s ability to develop, manage, and award new competitive grants to reduce the historically disproportionate health impacts of pollution in communities with environmental justice concerns,\u201d the budget reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EJECR will already be\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/09\/26\/bidens-epa-launches-environmental-justice-office-throw-billions-minority-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\">distributing<\/a>\u00a0about $3 billion in environmental justice grants to minority and low-income communities the EPA believes have been disproportionately harmed by pollution and other environmental problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/heartlanddailynews.com\/2023\/04\/epa-administrator-regan-demands-375-million-for-environmental-justice\/\">https:\/\/heartlanddailynews.com\/2023\/04\/epa-administrator-regan-demands-375-million-for-environmental-justice\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan requested $375 million and 265 new full-time employees to promote \u201cenvironmental justice\u201d in his Wednesday testimony to the Senate Committee on Environmental and Public Works while defending the agency\u2019s budget.
