These social media platforms are addictive and damaging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cArkansas is leading the charge on filing three lawsuits against TikTok and Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram,\u201d she continued. \u201cThese actions are a long time coming. We have watched over the past decade as one social media company after another has exploited our kids for profit and escaped government oversight. My administration will not tolerate that failed status quo.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Sander\u2019s office said that Meta has been \u201crewiring how our children think, feel and behave.\u201d Meta has also been deceptive about the \u201caddictive nature of its products.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lawsuit filed by Sanders\u2019 office implied that the parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, has an \u201cabundance of posts dealing with mature themes, nudity and drugs viewed by minors despite TikTok\u2019s claims that such posts are unavailable to maintain teenager-approved ratings on various application stores.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Critics of the lawsuit might claim that parents need to keep better control over what their children are accessing online, but that seems impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are they doing at friends\u2019 houses or even at school? It\u2019s so difficult to shield young kids from the trash that\u2019s on the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chinese version of TikTok is very different from the American version and has much stricter rules for younger users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cChina is a foreign adversary that is targeting our children through social media in a serious challenge to American values,\u201d the governor\u2019s office stated. \u201cChina is also threatening our nation\u2019s security and our citizens\u2019 privacy by leveraging information technologies like TikTok against the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The videos that Chinese children can access are geared more toward education and learning, the opposite of what American children are viewing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Forbes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cArkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin (R) filed one lawsuit in state court against Meta and two separate cases against both TikTok and its China-based parent company ByteDance, according to an announcement Tuesday, alleging all three companies have violated the state\u2019s Deceptive Trade Practices Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cThe lawsuit against Meta\u2014parent company to Facebook and Instagram\u2014claims the company \u2018knowingly\u2019 designed its social media apps to \u201ccreate addiction\u201d for its younger users, including the use of a \u2018like\u2019 button that will trigger \u2018the release of dopamine.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cThe first lawsuit against TikTok and ByteDance alleges both companies have created an algorithm that promotes explicit content to minors\u2014which the state says \u2018can and does influence their behavior, causing significant harm.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s time to protect the children in this country. Attacks are coming from every direction. Parents\u2019 heads need to be on a swivel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are they learning in school? What are they seeing online?
