He lost 20 votes in the final effort, an increase from the initial 19 dissenting votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former President has supported McCarthy, but when asked by NBC News after the session adjourned for the day if he stands by the California Republican,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/3797359-trump-wont-say-if-hes-sticking-by-mccarthy-after-failed-speakership-votes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump hedged<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see what happens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">EXCLUSIVE: Former President Trump declined to say if he&#39;s sticking by his endorsement of Kevin McCarthy for speaker tonight, telling me in a brief phone interview he&#39;s had calls all day asking for support, and &quot;We&#39;ll see what happens. We&#39;ll see how it all works out.&quot;<\/p>&mdash; Garrett Haake (@GarrettHaake) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GarrettHaake\/status\/1610408754721218561?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 3, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trump Backs McCarthy For Speaker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>By Wednesday morning, Trump had come around and issued a strongly worded statement of support on his Truth Social media platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome really good conversations took place last night, and it\u2019s now time for all of our great Republican House Members to vote for Kevin, close the deal, take the victory, [and] watch Nancy Pelosi fly back home to a very broken California,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDo not turn a great triumph into a giant \u2026 embarrassing defeat,\u201d he pleaded. \u201cIt\u2019s time to celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump even predicted McCarthy might very well do a \u201cgreat job\u201d as Speaker of the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s statement seems to be a concession that one has to play ball with McCarthy, given the make-up of GOP conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An interesting development as Trump was accused of refusing to support more moderate Republican candidates who could ultimately win in the midterm elections and actually deliver the much-hyped red wave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What will be even more interesting is how some of the America First lawmakers such as Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) respond to Trump\u2019s plea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will they drop their opposition or risk raising the ire of the former President? It may be a wild day today to see if Trump truly maintains his grip on the MAGA element in the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Trump endorsed McCarthy&#8230; but does any Trump supporter actually like McCarthy?<\/p>&mdash; Tim Young (@TimRunsHisMouth) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimRunsHisMouth\/status\/1610337919213998087?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 3, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blames Mitch McConnell<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In further social media statements on the Speaker vote, Trump seemed less interested in blaming McCarthy\u2019s past actions for his humiliating defeat, but rather, pointed a finger at Mitch McConnell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is so much unnecessary turmoil in the Republican Party, in large part do to people like the Old Broken Crow, Mitch McConnell,\u201d he wrote, also lumping in the Senate Minority leader\u2019s wife and his \u201cRINO allies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump suggested the embarrassment wasn\u2019t what happened in the House Tuesday, the real \u201cdowner\u201d was when McConnell and other squish Republicans voted in favor of the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real problem, he explained, are GOP lawmakers \u201cconstantly capitulating to hopeless Joe Biden and the Democrats.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McConnell, The Political Insider&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/mitch-mcconnell-to-join-biden-in-event-celebrating-infrastructure-spending-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported earlier this week<\/a>, will be making an appearance with President Biden to celebrate \u201cinfrastructure\u201d spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move is being heralded by the White House as an example of \u2018bipartisan\u2019 success under the Biden regime, and will see McConnell aid Democrats in their messaging that the economy is moving in the right direction under this President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Isn&#39;t this sweet?
