When the Aurora, Colorado Batman movie theater shooter attacked, there were seven movie theaters showing \u201cThe Dark Knight Rises\u201d on July 20th within 20 minutes of the killer\u2019s apartment at 1690 Paris St, Aurora, Colorado, but the killer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/did-colorado-shooter-single-out-cinemark-theater-because-it-banned-guns\">picked the only theater<\/a>&nbsp;that had signs posted that it was a gun-free zone. His first target had been an airport but he worried about their \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2015\/05\/notes-on-the-james-holmes-batman-movie-theater-shooting-case-maximize-killing-and-deterrence-matters-for-these-mass-killers\/\">substantial security<\/a>.\u201d Similar stories have occurred at malls such as in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/story\/john-r-lott-jr-gun-free-zones-are-not-safe\">Omaha and Salt Lake City<\/a>&nbsp;or the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2015\/07\/lafayette-louisiana-movie-theater-shooting-was-yet-another-gun-free-zone\/\">Lafayette, Louisiana movie theater<\/a>. Despite teachers carrying guns in schools in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/tag\/list-of-states-that-allow-carrying-guns-on-school-property\/\">20 states<\/a>, all the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2019\/01\/in-the-journal-of-health-behavior-research-on-should-schools-have-teachers-carry-guns\/\">shooting attacks<\/a>&nbsp;at schools have occurred in schools that ban teachers from having guns. Given that people are allowed to carry their permitted concealed handguns in the vast majority of public places, if these mass public shootings were random, 95% or higher of these attacks would take place in areas where permitted concealed handguns were allowed. Instead the reverse is true, with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2018\/06\/more-misleading-information-from-bloombergs-everytown-for-gun-safety-on-guns-analysis-of-recent-mass-shootings\/\">98% of those attacks taking place<\/a>&nbsp;where general citizens are banned from having guns. At some point, it would seem obvious that these attacks aren\u2019t random. The links below provide some information that these mass public shooters do consider this information when engaging in their attacks. Original: Vince Vaughn explained what should be obvious to most people in an &nbsp;interview in the UK edition of GQ:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq-magazine.co.uk\/entertainment\/articles\/2015-05\/29\/vince-vaughn-covers-july-issue-british-gq\">It\u2019s well known that the greatest defence against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back.<\/a>&nbsp;All these gun shootings that have gone down in America since 1950, only one or maybe two have happened in non-gun-free zones. Take mass shootings. They\u2019ve only happened in places that don\u2019t allow guns. These people are sick in the head and are going to kill innocent people. They are looking to slaughter defenceless human beings. They do not want confrontation. In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/2015\/06\/01\/conservative-media-applaud-vince-vaughn-for-pus\/203833\">Media Matters then attacked Vaughn<\/a>&nbsp;by pointing to a flawed report&nbsp;by Bloomberg\u2019s Everytown, but of course, Media Matters doesn\u2019t respond or even acknowledge&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2014\/09\/more-misleading-information-from-bloombergs-everytown-for-gun-safety-on-guns-analysis-of-recent-mass-shootings\/\"><strong>all the errors<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;that have been previously pointed out with Bloomberg\u2019s report. &nbsp;See also&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2014\/10\/new-cprc-report-errors-in-bloombergs-latest-report-on-mass-shootings-2\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>. Killers often openly talk about their desire to attack where no one is there with a gun to stop them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">UPDATE, ADDED EXAMPLE: In the planned&nbsp;Church attack in Detroit, the person planning the attack note one reason to picking his target:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2016\/02\/yet-more-evidence-that-terrorists-pick-gun-free-zones-to-attack\/\">Plus people are not allowed to carry guns in church.<\/a>\u201d&nbsp;. . .UPDATE, ADDED EXAMPLE: Regarding the Charleston Church shooting:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2015\/06\/yet-more-evidence-that-these-killers-are-deterred-by-people-with-guns-charleston-south-carolina-church-shooter\/\">\u201cI don\u2019t think the church was his primary target because he told us he was going for the school,\u201d Scriven said Friday. \u201cBut I think he couldn\u2019t get into the school because of the security \u2026 so I think he just settled for the church.\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;. . .<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Covenant School shooting in Nashville (March 27, 2023).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">\u201cIt was the only school that was targeted. There was another location that was mentioned, but because of a threat assessment by the suspect of too much security, they decided not to,\u201d Drake said. \u201cThat area was here in Nashville, so we\u2019re continuing with that investigation as well.\u201d&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsmv.com\/2023\/03\/28\/nashville-school-shooter-purchased-7-guns-planned-attack-multiple-locations-police-say\/\">Lydia Fielder and Tony Garcia, \u201cNashville school shooter purchased 7 guns, planned attack on multiple locations, police say,\u201d WSMV, March 27, 2023<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Last June, Elliot Rodger, who killed six people in Santa Barbara, Calif.,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2014\/05\/do-mentally-ill-multiple-victim-killers-purposefully-pick-targets-where-victims-are-most-vulnerable-the-case-of-elliot-rodgers\/\">explained his own choice<\/a>. In his 141-page \u201cManifesto,\u201d Rodger turned down targets because he worried that someone with a gun would cut short his killing spree. That same month, Justin Bourque shot to death three people in Canada.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2014\/06\/the-moncton-n-b-shooter-another-killer-who-clearly-understood-the-advantage-to-him-of-gun-free-zones\/\">His Facebook page made fun of gun-free zones<\/a>, with pictures of defenseless victims explaining to killers that they weren\u2019t allowed to have their guns. This past week we finally got a look at the diary of the Batman movie theater killer, James Holmes, and it was clear that he was considering both attacking an airport and a movie theater. &nbsp;But he turned down the airport option because he was concerned about their \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/james-holmes-notebook-dragged.pdf\">substantial security<\/a>.\u201d &nbsp;Beyond that,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/2012\/09\/10\/did-colorado-shooter-single-out-cinemark-theater.html\">only one of the seven movie theaters<\/a>&nbsp;near the killer\u2019s apartment had posted signs banning permitted concealed handguns and that was the theater that Holmes picked to attack. In February 2016, there was another planned mass public shooting on one of the largest churches in the Detroit area that the FBI stopped. &nbsp;Their recording of this individual\u2019s phone calls is chilling:&nbsp;<em>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2016\/02\/yet-more-evidence-that-terrorists-pick-gun-free-zones-to-attack\/\">It\u2019s easy, and a lot of people go there. Plus people are not allowed to carry guns in church. Plus it would make the news.<\/a>\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">UPDATED, added example: The Buffalo mass murderer in 2022 wrote in his manifesto explaining why he picked the target that he did:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2022\/05\/new-york-mass-public-shooter-explicitly-targeted-areas-where-ccw-are-outlawed-or-prohibited-may-be-good-areas-of-attack-areas-with-strict-gun-laws-are-also-great-places-of-attack\/\">\u201careas where CCW are outlawed or prohibited may be good areas of attack\u201d and \u201careas with strict gun laws are also great places of attack.\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;Like other attackers, the Buffalo muderer cased the target before his attack.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, there are numerous other examples such as the Columbine killers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1999\/06\/29\/us\/shattered-lives-special-report-caring-parents-no-answers-columbine-killers-pasts.html?pagewanted=all&amp;src=pm\">opposing the concealed carry law that was then working its way through the state legislature<\/a>. \u00a0The Majority leader of the state House at the time, Doug Dean, told John Lott that Klebold had written his state legislators opposing the legislation.\u00a0 The bill would have allowed people to carry permitted concealed handguns on school property.\u00a0 The\u00a0killers\u00a0timed their attack for the very day that final passage of the law was planned for in the legislature. \u00a0(Dr. Lott had been brought into Colorado by Dean to talk to legislators the morning of the vote, and was flying back to Chicago when the attack occurred.) \u00a0Their attack derailed the passage for years, but few talk about the fact that their attack was timed for just hours before the final vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20370%20247'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-137.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-image-2423\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"613\" height=\"456\" src=\"https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-137.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-137.png 613w, https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-137-300x223.png 300w, https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-137-293x218.png 293w, https:\/\/nakedpolitics.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-137-390x290.png 390w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 613px) 100vw, 613px\" \/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For those interested,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2015\/04\/uber-driver-in-chicago-stops-mass-public-shooting\/\">here is a list<\/a>&nbsp;of concealed handgun permit holders who have stopped mass public shootings. &nbsp;This is not the first time that Vaughn has made comments on guns, though it is probably the most forceful that he has been on the topic. Here is his interview from earlier in the year for Playboy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>Do you own a gun?<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.playboy.com\/articles\/playboy-interview-vince-vaughn\">I do, yeah. I believe in the right to defend yourself if need be.<\/a>\u00a0Hopefully you\u2019re never in that situation, but I think you\u2019re fairly naive to believe there will never be a cause for self-defense. But again, I believe it\u2019s up to the individual. I don\u2019t believe rights come in groups.
