Ron DeSantis thinks he would beat President Joe Biden if he ran against him in 2024, the governor revealed in an interview with Piers Morgan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis definitively addressed 2024 when&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/03\/21\/i-can-win-presidency-desantis-tells-piers-morgan-how-he-can-beat-biden\/\">he told Morgan<\/a>: \u201cIf I were to run \u2026 I\u2019m running against Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLike, we are competing for the Republican, potentially, I get that, but ultimately, you know the guy I\u2019m gonna focus on is Biden because I think he\u2019s failed the country,\u201d DeSantis continued. \u201cI think the country wants a change. They want their streets safe, and they want quality education. So I think you could appeal to people across the canvas.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/NYPICHPDPICT000008573459.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interview reportedly took place two hours after DeSantis, during a Monday press conference, slammed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for \u201cpursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office\u201d against former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen rumors swirl, I have not seen any facts yet, and so I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen,\u201d DeSantis said, asked about Trump\u2019s potential indictment. \u201cBut I do know this. The Manhattan district attorney is a [George] Soros-funded prosecutor, and so he, like other Soros-funded prosecutors, they weaponize their office to impose a political agenda on society at the expense of the rule of law and public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis also addressed the potential charges against Trump related to the $130,000 hush-money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels. Those payments were made by former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, allegedly to keep her quiet about an alleged affair with Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair\u2014I just, I can\u2019t speak to that,\u201d DeSantis&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therecount\/status\/1637831298935914496?s=20\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut what I can speak to is that if you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction, and he chooses to go back many, many years ago to try to use something about porn star hush-money payments, you know, that\u2019s an example of pursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office,\u201d the governor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MonaSalama_\/status\/1637869214919712779?s=20\">continued<\/a>. \u201cAnd I think that that\u2019s fundamentally wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut the real victims are ordinary New Yorkers, ordinary Americans, and all these different jurisdictions that they get victimized every day because of the reckless political agenda that the Soros DAs bring to their job,\u201d DeSantis added. \u201cThey ignore crime and they empower criminals, and that hurts people, hurts a lot of people every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRon DeSanctimonious will probably find out about FALSE ACCUSATIONS &amp; FAKE STORIES sometime in the future, as he gets older, wiser and better known when he\u2019s unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman, even classmates that are \u2018underage\u2019 (or possibly a man!),\u201d the former president said, referring to an unsubstantiated claim that DeSantis formerly partied with underage girls. \u201cI\u2019m sure he will want to fight these misfits just like I do!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About two hours after he made the remarks at the press conference, DeSantis&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/03\/21\/ron-desantis-opens-fire-on-trumps-character-chaotic-style\/\">sat down with Morgan<\/a>. The full interview will air on Fox Nation on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgan writes that he asked the governor about specific differences between DeSantis and Trump, to which DeSantis responded: \u201cWell, I think there\u2019s a few things. The approach to COVID was different. I would have fired somebody like [Anthony] Fauci. The outlet was forced to issue an editor\u2019s note correcting its story and noting that DeSantis was referring to Fauci.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis also told Morgan: \u201cI also think just in terms of my approach to leadership, I get personnel in the government who have the agenda of the people and share our agenda. You bring your own agenda in, you\u2019re gone. We\u2019re just not gonna have that. So, the way we run the government, I think, is no daily drama, focus on the big picture and put points on the board, and I think that\u2019s something that\u2019s very important.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgan wrote that this remark \u201cslammed Trump\u2019s chaotic, self-obsessed, divisive management style.\u201d A DeSantis spokeswoman told The Daily Signal that the comment merely speaks to the governor\u2019s leadership style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis also joked about Trump\u2019s nickname for him\u2014Ron DeSanctimonious\u2014telling Morgan: \u201cI don\u2019t know how to spell the sanctimonious one. I don\u2019t really know what it means, but I kinda like it, it\u2019s long, it\u2019s got a lot of vowels. We\u2019ll go with that, that\u2019s fine. I mean, you can call me whatever you want, just as long as you also call me a winner because that\u2019s what we\u2019ve been able to do in Florida, is put a lot of points on the board and really take this state to the next level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo me, it\u2019s just background noise,\u201d he reportedly told Morgan of Trump\u2019s ongoing criticisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not important for me to be fighting with people on social media,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s not accomplishing anything for the people I represent. So, we really just focus on knocking out victories, day after day, and if I got involved in all the undertow, I would not be able to be an effective governor. So, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s something that makes sense for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgan reminded DeSantis that Trump had tweeted before the 2018 election: \u201cRon DeSantis is a brilliant young leader. Yale and then Harvard who would make a great Governor of Florida. He loves our country. He\u2019s a true fighter.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/NYPICHPDPICT000008387517-2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis reportedly chuckled before answering, \u201cThings have changed a little bit, I guess. It is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had a good relationship [when he was a congressman] and I think one of the reasons he got to know me is because I saw the Russia collusion thing as a farce from the beginning,\u201d DeSantis said of Trump, according to Morgan. \u201cVery few people said that. We had a handful of us in Congress that were fighting back against that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo, I would go on TV, and I would defend him when it wasn\u2019t popular and when it was kinda politically risky, but I just thought it was the right thing to do and then I thought that he had good ideas for the country,\u201d DeSantis added. \u201cAnd then when I became governor, his last two years as president, we worked very well together. He had a place in Florida and worked well with us to serve our state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgan suggested that DeSantis made a \u201cfatal error\u201d in his relationship with Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d the governor asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou got too popular,\u201d Morgan responded, to which DeSantis laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWell, I would say if you look at some of the change from that \u2026 the major thing that\u2019s happened that\u2019s changed his tune was my reelection victory,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The governor insisted that his view is that \u201cwe should want the country to do well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want other Republicans to do well,\u201d he added. \u201cI want them to eclipse me. We\u2019re setting a great standard in Florida, have everyone up their game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither the White House nor the Trump campaign responded to requests for comment from The Daily Signal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Have an opinion about this article?
