Vice President Kamala Harris is embattled, with Democrats openly talking about how they hope President Joe Biden will drop her in 2024 and how she can never win the White House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So three reporters at The New York Times this week penned a piece<\/a> headlined \u201cKamala Harris Is Trying to Define Her Vice Presidency. Even Her Allies Are Tired of Waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The piece rambles on and on \u2014 more than 2,200 words \u2014 and of course concludes Harris is pretty darn good, with the last line quoting a supporter saying, \u201cIt\u2019s better to let Kamala be Kamala.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But there was one passage that was just too perfect to let slide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c[T]he painful reality for Ms. Harris is that in private conversations over the last few months, dozens of Democrats in the White House, on Capitol Hill and around the nation \u2014 including some who helped put her on the party\u2019s 2020 ticket \u2014 said she had not risen to the challenge of proving herself as a future leader of the party, much less the country. Even some Democrats whom her own advisers referred reporters to for supportive quotes confided privately that they had lost hope in her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wow. So, as Harris and her team are trying to spin some good news, they suggested the reporters check in with some top supporters, confident that they\u2019d deliver some gushing quotes. Instead, they did just the opposite, saying they\u2019d \u201clost hope in her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s just too perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The very next paragraph was also incredibly frank for the highly liberal Times. \u201cThrough much of the fall, a quiet panic set in among key Democrats about what would happen if President Biden opted not to run for a second term. Most Democrats interviewed, who insisted on anonymity to avoid alienating the White House, said flatly that they did not think Ms. Harris could win the presidency in 2024. Some said the party\u2019s biggest challenge would be finding a way to sideline her without inflaming key Democratic constituencies that would take offense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Times report followed another from the equally liberal Washington Post published last week. \u201cSome Democrats are worried about Harris\u2019s political prospects,\u201d said the headline<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Post, for some reason, went to Jacquelyn Bettadapur, a \u201clongtime leader of the Cobb County Democrats.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPeople are poised to pounce on anything \u2014 any misstep, any gaffe, anything she says \u2014 and so she\u2019s probably not getting the benefit of the doubt,\u201d she said. Many Democrats \u201cdon\u2019t know enough about what she\u2019s doing,\u201d she said, adding, \u201cit doesn\u2019t help that she\u2019s not [that] adept as a communicator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the last few months, Democrats have openly mused about her future, with some liberal news sites and party leaders saying she shouldn\u2019t run in 2024. If Biden runs again, he should dump Harris, some stories say. Others say that if he doesn\u2019t run, the party should bail on her and pick someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
