Biden’s Laziness Just Affected America’s Budget

On March 9, more than a month late, the Biden administration intends to deliver the president’s budget request to Congress.

“President Joe Biden will present a budget on March 9 for the fiscal year 2024,” according to a memo being passed around the White House that was drafted by Directors of the National Economic Council and Office of Management and Budget, Brian Deese and Shalanda Young.

The Congressional Budget Act mandates that the president submit his budget request to Congress by the first Monday in February, which falls this year on Feb. 6. As a result, the presidential budget submission to Congress will be nearly a month late.

Presidents have exceeded the legally mandated deadline more than 20 times over the course of the previous century, according to Punchbowl News, and insiders tell the outlet that Biden intends to do the same.

The Biden administration would have missed the deadline for the third year in a row to submit its budget submission to Congress.

Presidents’ proposed budgets are frequently ignored by politicians when passing spending measures through Congress since they are generally perceived as communications papers supporting the administration’s aims.

The memo from Deese and Young added, “It is critical that Speaker McCarthy also plans to release a budget to ensure that the American people will be able to see how House Republicans plan to decrease the deficit… and just how much their Budget will add to the deficit with tax reductions for the wealthiest Americans as well as large corporations, as in their first bill this year.”
