Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy has the rare talent of being able to ask hard questions with an edge of humor.
Citing a new book “The Last Politician” by Atlantic writer Franklin Foer, Doocy asked press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre why “President Biden … is treated like a baby?”
The shocking question ruffled Jean-Pierre, who initially pushed back, saying, “No one treats the president of the United States, the commander in chief, like a baby.”
Doocy disagreed, noting there is a new book that makes that claim.
“That’s ridiculous, it’s a ridiculous claim,” Jean-Pierre interjected.
The press secretary then provided a rambling response: “I’ll say this, there is always going to be a range of books that are about every administration, as you know, that’s going to have a variety of claims. That is not unusual, that happens all the time and we’re not going to litigate here. That’s not something that we are going to speak to.”
Jean-Pierre then claimed that Foer’s book presented a positive assessment of President Biden — noting, in her words, his “wisdom” which has “rallied the free world against authoritarianism … we have seen this— we all have seen this … his handling of foreign policy like rallying the world around Ukraine.”
Doocy pointed out that Foer’s book referred to Biden’s foreign policy work as a “failure” and asserted that the president “fumed to friends [that] he was treated like a toddler. [Asking], was [former President] John Kennedy ever babied like that?”
When Doocy pressed Jean-Pierre about recent Wall Street Journal, YouGov, Yahoo, AP, and NORC polls which found that an overwhelming percent of Americans and 69% of Democrats believe the president is too old to effectively lead the country for a second term.
Last April, the Daily Caller reported that Biden attempted to address concerns about his age and mental fitness by telling reporters that his legislative record has been “overwhelmingly positive.”
On Tuesday, the Daily Caller reported how Biden has brushed aside concerns about his age, saying:
“With regard to age and polling data, I noticed the polling data. I keep hearing about it, is that I’m between 42 and 46% favorable rating, etc., but everybody running for reelection in this time has been in the same position, there’s nothing new about that.”
