On Wednesday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told “FOX & Friends” that he believes history will judge Dr. Anthony Fauci for his role in gaining funding from the U.S. government for the lab that allegedly led to the leak of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China.
“Yeah, I think Fauci deserves culpability and history is going to judge him very poorly because he made the judgment to fund this research,” Paul said.
“It’s dangerous research. He doesn’t want to call it gain of function, but most other scientists do call it gain-of-function, in Wuhan, in an opaque totalitarian country. And in the end, there was a leak from the lab and millions of people died worldwide,” he added.
Paul’s comments come after a report revealed that the U.S. Energy Department had concluded the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic was most likely a result of a leak from the Chinese lab in Wuhan.
Citing a classified U.S. intelligence report, the Wall Street Journal reported that the “Energy Department has concluded that the Covid pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak.” The conclusion is significant because it is “the result of new intelligence” and the Energy Department “has considerable scientific expertise and oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research.”
The FBI similarly concluded that the pandemic resulted from a lab leak in China.
